What is the SIMPLEST way to back up your desktop home computer?

Is there a EASY way to back up a hard drive?

I am a complete novice when it comes to computers and want a SIMPLE and QUICK way to back up my hard drive in case it crashes and I loose important data for work and school.

What is the EASIEST way to back up data ones data.

Thank you.

There are so many ways you can backup your important files.  In fact, it can be confusing to pick the right solution – because that depends on what you need to backup.

Let’s look at three solutions that will work for just about anyone.

The first is to purchase a USB drive an keep a copy of your important files there.  This is a very cheap and simple solution especially if you do not create many new files.  The downside is you have to remember to do it.

The next method (and the one that I do) is to have an external hard drive (which are also very cheap) and copy all your files to the hard drive on a regular basis.

The next – and probably the best – idea is to use the “cloud”.  This means saving all your files onto online storgae.  This solution means that you can access your backup from anywhere.

The cost of using a cloud based solution is now very low and there are some excleent tools on the market to help schedule backups on a regular basis.

If you have a lot of critical data on your home desktop computers or laptop you should spend just a few bucks a month for a fully automated solution.

No commentary but you can pretty much see how it all works together to access anything from anywhere. All of my internet tv shows such as shows from Revision3 are downloaded on my PC automatically with Miro & I can watch them on the SageTv box or on Xbox Media Center on my hacked Xbox & they are automatically deleted within a set period of time to stop my hard drive from filling up. Also all content from SageTV PVR & PC’s is accessible from anywhere in the world with my psp using the PS3 remote play feature. SageTv Pc 1st Mainboard mobo 2.0Ghz P4 256mb ram 120GB Samsung XP BOOT, Kind of a waste a free space but it was a spare drive & Samsungs seem to last forever. 2x 250GB Maxtor IDE Drives Storage Cheap Hong Kong ATA 133 card Because the old mobo dosen’t see over 137GB Hauppage PVR-150 TV Tuner card & Serial cable from a ReplayTv to connect pc to DirecTv for channel change. RAID or backups for family home desktop computer?

Posted by Filed Under Home Desktop Computers with 8 Comments

I have 2 500Gb hard drives. Should I set up RAID or run frequent backups? I use ACRONIS home edition for backups. This is for my family’s desktop home computer so we do use it quite often. What is the best choice to keep my data safe?
I guess I was under false impression that RAID and backups where for the same purpose. I now see that RAID is more for performance and redudancy and backups are for data security. I guess since I dont need the performance as much as securing our data, I will rely on system restore and backups to maintain data integrity. We have already lost data due to hard drive failure. I am trying now to make sure our data is secure. I think I will run Acronis Home edition to provide auto backups of documents and pics, etc on daily bases and weekly full backup of entire system. I will also increase the disk space allotment for system restore. I am trying to make the best use of my 2 hard drives. What do you all think of this?

Can email spam on a different computer in a different location effect my home computer next time I sign in?

Posted by Filed Under Home Desktop Computers with 3 Comments

If I am on another computer other than my home computer, and it’s also miles away from home, and I check out a web that may be email spam, can the spam or virus stay in my email account and then effect my computer the next time sign in as myself on Yahoo Mail on my home computer? Is there any risk, even though I checked the website on a different computer in a different location?
I mean once I click the web address in my email account on any computer, will my email account carry the virus from then on, even if I no longer check that message? So to avoid the virus anymore, I can no longer sign in that account period? So I would have to create a new email account?

I have a decent laptop computer but my desktop is obsolete. I use the desktop for homeowner business, paying bills, letter writing, storing and processing photos. I am not a gamer and don’t need space on my desk. Am I dumb for still wanting a desktop computer in this age of wireless networks?
